The Penn Museum Certificate in Museum Teaching and Learning provides a formalized opportunity for University of Pennsylvania graduate students in museum-related disciplines to develop their skills in teaching with collections and material culture.
Certificate Requirements
- Participation in the Graduate Guide program: develop and lead at least one gallery tour.
- Develop and execute an hour-long OBL classroom activity (including but not limited to leading a recitation in the Collections Study Room, Virtual or International Classroom, extra-curricular workshop, or Preceptorial).
- Attend 5 approved M.T.L. Workshops (a combination of Center for Teaching & Learning and Museum-based workshops).
- Create a Museum- and Object-Based teaching statement, integrating with a larger teaching philosophy.
Optional Activities
- Shadow or participate in a K-12 education tour, workshop, or teacher professional development offering through the Learning Programs department.
- Volunteer for Cartifacts, at a World Culture Day, or another Public Programs offering.
- Write a post for the Penn Museum blog on teaching in the Museum.
Eligibility: Any current University of Pennsylvania graduate student.
